Kiss “Freddie” in the Cayman Islands Is May a good time to kiss Freddie? I was looking through the Cayman video on WeScuba2.com and remembered having a blast on the Grand Cayman Aggressor. I’m going back again Saturday May 1st, want to join me? We will fly from Huntsville to Atlanta, then to Grand Cayman. Upon arrival, it is just a short taxi ride to George Town Tourist Dock where our yacht awaits us. Want to fly in early, no problem! Just let me know and we’ll set it up. Boarding time is at 14:00, but if we reach the dock early, the crew will take our bags, so we can go shop or cross the street to let our hair down at Margaritaville! When we return to our private yacht, we’ll set up our dive station for the fabulous week of diverse diving ahead! Our clothing bag will magically appear in our cabin. Don’t forget to set your cabin thermostat. Once we are settled, our “island time” friend, Captain Lowell and his amazing crew will give us a briefing. With dive gear assembled and the safety briefing complete we will sit back and relax atop the sundeck with a tropical drink in hand awaiting the Chef’s savory dinner extravaganzas. In the waning hours of the day, the Cayman Aggressor IV serenely casts off to a welcoming moon lit night to come to rest at mooring for our first underwater experience in the morning. Awake in your cozy Caribbean cabin with wonderful breakfast aromas wafting in from the galley. When we finish our eggs to order and have our favorite morning drink while gazing at the sparkling clear water, the dive bell will be sounded for our first briefing. After the briefing we can chart our own path for the dive or follow a dive professional. Either way, we will take a few steps to the dive deck where all of our diving adventures are just a giant stride away! We can make up to five dives per day! Diving in the Cayman Islands is so diverse! Like wreck diving? Great, we will check out the Russian Destroyer #356 in Cayman Brac. This destroyer is a 330ft long wreck in about 90ft of water that offers many areas that are open to explore! Want to stay closer to the surface, no problem the normal visibility allows us to see the entire wreck from the surface! Like Wall diving, wait until you check out Bloody Bay Wall! Not only is it a gorgeous wall teaming with life, but this site offers an added bonus atop the reef! When we venture to the top of the wall, we will literally be greeted by a friendly grouper named “Freddie”. He has been a permanent resident there for years and enjoys attention from divers. He’ll even nudge off any other groupers that try to join! Freddie will look in the reefs with us as he hopes that we will help with some nuclear hunting. Although I do not help Freddie catch a bite to eat, I do pet and play around with him as he follows me on the dive. Now one of my favorite dive sites is Nancy’s Cup of Tea which offers an abundance of fish life, including reef sharks, schools of Creole wrasse, multiple turtles, spotted morays, and if we are lucky, we will get to see a seahorse as well! Want more interaction? Let’s not forget that we get to be the first to arrive at Stingray City! We will step off the boat and kneel down in about 18ft of water; a divemaster will bring down some squid for us to feed the rays! There will be so many rays weaving through us that we will not be able to count them! Since they do not have teeth, your fingers are safe! The rays have been known to leave a hickey or two! Prefer areas that allow us to swim through? Well then it is time to make a deal with the Devil at Devil’s Grotto. Devil’s Grotto is just one of the many places along Grand Cayman that has several connected systems that offer a chance to safely channel your way through the cracks in the reef. These channels allow safe access to the surface and the sunlight makes the tarpon seem to change colors! Giant Parrot fish are also a common sighting along Grand Cayman. Check out the pictures from last years trip on WeScuba2.com You have a friend that is a non-diver, no problem, do they like to snorkel, fish, or enjoy a canoe? If so, bring them along as they also get a discount! There is always the option of a nice book with your favorite drink in one of the comfy lounge chairs or hot tub! There are many dive sites in Cayman Brac, Little Cayman, and Grand Cayman that offer a smorgasbord of diverse diving opportunities, so this is also fertile ground for dive training! If you decide that you want to dive Nitrox or your Advanced Open Water Certification, no problem, I can do the class onboard! Want to Take the MASTER SCUBA DIVER Challenge? We will have a week filled with plenty of opportunities for us to knock out specialties such as: Boat, Wreck, Night, Deep, and Peak Performance Buoyancy. Want to take a Digital Photography course, sure! The boat has cameras for rent and we can easily do that class as well! After writing this, I wish we were leaving tomorrow! Although it’s not tomorrow, May 1st is coming up soon, so reserve your cabin while there is still space left! Our private yacht only takes 18 divers! Prices range from $2495 to $2895, stop by the shop and see Greg for more details!
