To: The first "Dive Briefing" for Explorer Post 33

Where: Southeastern Divers - Huntsville

Why:

Many times we have been asked by parents of teenagers that we have trained to dive, "what is available for my son or daughter to participate in SCUBA with others his/her own age.  That's always been a difficult question to answer, . . . . until now.

Southeastern Divers is now sponsoring an "Explorer Post". 

What is a Explorer Post?  A Explorer Post is a group of young people (both male and female) ages 14 to 20 with a similar interest in a activity or career path.  Obviously our Post will focus on diving.

What do "Explorers" do?  Well, whatever they want to!  But mostly, they just have FUN!

The Explorer program was started by the Boy Scouts of America many years ago.  Unlike Boy Scouts, Explorers don't earn Merit Badges or progress through ranks of advancement.  Primarily Explorers just have FUN!!  Hopefully most of the fun our Explorers will have will be by doing what they love to do, GO DIVING!

Additionally we will provide these young people the opportunity to "Explore" the many possibilities of working in the dive industry.  We will learn about the recreational dive industry, commercial diving, military diving, rescue squad diving, dive medicine, marine biology and just about anything you can think of that people do underwater as a career!

We will have trips to places to learn more about diving and the underwater world.  Wouldn't it be "just awful" to have to spend a weekend in Panama City because you just "had to" visit the U.S. Navy Diving and Salvage Training Center to learn about how the Navy trains their divers?  And wouldn't it be worse still if you had to go out in the Gulf of Mexico and do some diving while your were there? ;)

The "Dive Briefing" on April 3rd is designed to give young men and women between the ages of 14 and 20 a chance to learn more about what Explorer Post 33 is all about.  You will not be pressured to join.  Please feel free to attend out of simple curiosity.  Parents are both welcomed and encouraged to attend with their son or daughter.
